The 12 Bats of Christmas - Bluroom Avalanche

When you’re trusted to make special bats for the likes of Puma and Kookaburra then you know you must be doing something right. That someone is Robert Pack & his creations are rated among the best in the business.

I’ve been fortunate enough to visit the Pack Cave in Irthlingborough and spend a couple of hours in Rob’s company talking all things cricket and bat making and it really was a pleasure to see how Rob’s attention to detail makes a real difference to his products.

We’ve chosen the newest bat in his Blueroom range, the Avalanche, which has a truly modern look and feel to it. It picks up light but still packs a real punch with a low profile and thick meaty edges. The weight is taken out of the bat by a gentle concave to the back but still keeping enough wood in the huge sweet spot and the flat face has a noticeable bow to it.

What makes the difference though is how this bat is treated before it leaves the workshop. Rob seals each bat in his special brew of oil (it’s a top secret recipe), hand hammers the toe and edges and gives the bat an extra press to bring out the maximum performance from the willow. Then it is polished to bring a beautiful mirror finish shine to the wood that makes it almost a shame to use it, before applying the classy retro blue & pink decals.

Having tapped up some of the bats in the showroom it’s no wonder Rob’s creations were voted best bat for 3 years running and you can see why business is booming with every bat given the personal touch to guarantee it will be a winner.
